Notes on Searching for ROP Gadgets in a JavaScript Buffer

An incomplete research fragment for scanning a byte buffer with partial gadget signatures

17-06-2018

This fragment sketches a byte-pattern search over a Uint8Array. Sparse entries in the pattern act as wildcards, allowing the scan to look for candidate instruction sequences without specifying every byte.

It is not a standalone program or a reproducible exploit: the target, architecture, memory layout, and helper functions are omitted, and some byte constants are only placeholders. A match is only a candidate; it does not by itself establish that a gadget is usable or that ASLR has been bypassed. I am keeping this fragment as a compact note about the search idea, not as operational guidance.

Uint8Array.prototype.rop = function(t) {
 function d(r,o,p) {
  if (r!=t[0]) return 0;
  for (q=0;q<t.length;q++) {
    if (undefined==t[q]) continue;
    if (p[o+q]!=t[q]) return 0;
  }
  return 1; }
 return this.findIndex(d);
}
module = new Uint8Array(0x370000)
write( addr(module)+slots, leakModuleBase() )
rop1 = module.rop([0xe8, ,,,, 0xcc])
rop3 = module.rop([c0, 01, ce, ff, c3, 01])
